The Wonder Book of Why & What 6th Edition c1925
Auction Description

The Wonder Book of Why & What, 6th Edition
c.1925 Ward Lock

This Wonder Book is about Answers to Children's Questions, and deals with a diverse range of topics.

Published by Ward Lock & Co. Ltd. This 6th Edition  refers to dates up to 1923 at the latest, and so I estimate this edition is about 1925. The Cover Picture is of a boy in Scout's or Cub's uniform? seen also on the front covers of other editions. The Title Page has an extract from a poem by Rudyard Kipling.

Hardback, 256 pages, 12 colour plates and nearly 300 illustrations, the majority of which are sepia and black and white photos. The colour Frontispiece and front fly-leaf endpaper by Thomas Maybank are missing (though the endpapers at the back are intact).  Overall size approx. 9.3/4 inches x 7.1/2 inches x 1.1/8 inches thick.

Condition: Fair for its age. I have not examined every page in detail, but have noted that several pages have a small tear at the bottom due to pages being turned too close to the binding. Some pages have grubby fingerprints at the bottom too. The board covers and cloth spine are in worn condition, rubbed at all edges and corners, and there is a small tear in the cloth spine at the bottom. The binding has 'cracked' in a few places and at least one page has come loose. The book as a whole has a slight warp to it from poor storage. Nevertheless, this much-used book is still eminently readable throughout, and remains a nostalgic collector's item.

A heavy book for which Royal Mail Standard Parcels is the most economical postage option.
