DID YOU, OR MEMBERS OF YOUR FAMILY WORK AT SAMUEL FOXS’ or UNITED STEELS, in the 'UMBRELLA SHOP' or perhaps in ‘BAGNALL’S CATHEDRAL’?....... IF SO THIS IS FOR YOU This recently re-discovered film shows the town of Stocksbridge in South Yorkshire in the 1950’s Much of everyday life then centred around the steelworks, which at that time was the centreof  the community. The film shows, and names, many  of  the employees, and members of their families goingabout their daily lives. The many views inside the works include the apprentice school, offices, accounts,  trainingworkshops, umbrella frame shop, furnaces and rolling mill. We drop in on a council meeting, see the old market, the school, attend band practice, and seethe amateur dramatics group in action. This film is a fascinating look at life in Stocksbridge in the middle of  the last century and the part

played by ‘steel’ in the everyday lives of the community.
