Printed upon heavyweight canvas textured media

Utagawa Kuniyoshi

(Lived from 1797 to 1861) A Great Master in the Ukiyo e woodblock print and painting artist from the Utagawa School. He was most famous for his pictures of beautiful women, warriors and his landscapes which were popular. He also produced many caricature and comical pictures disguised as actors and courtesans which was banned at that time. Cats often featured in his work as he had a fond affection for them, and he also painted animals, birds and fish that were typically of an Eastern character and tradition.

Later in his life he suffered from Palsy which greatly affected his ability to paint until he died. During his lifetime Kuniyoshi had many apprentices and pupils including Yoshitoshi who is considered to have been the last master of the Japanese Woodblock print.

Print size is approximately 11 by 8 inches, (SUPERSIZE prints may be up to 13 by 19 inches) and may include a white border around the print, which will vary in size depending upon original's proportions. ie. a square original will have a larger border top and bottom.
