Lord Bacon. Antique print, c. 1880.
Auction Description

Lord Bacon.

ORIGINAL PRINT (STEEL ENGRAVING), C. 1880.

An attractive fine engraving of Lord Bacon. Engraved by C. Cook. In very good condition with title (not shown) and wide border. Ideal for framing.

General Information: Steel Engraving - To produce a print using this process an image is first hand-cut (engraved) into the surface of a steel plate. To make a print the plate is inked, then wiped clean, so that only the incisions are left holding any ink. The image is then transferred to paper under heavy pressure, in a press. The main characteristic of a steel engraving is that it has a very sharp, hard-edged, precise image. The computer scan above can only give a very general impression of the detail.

Size:- printed area 4.00 x 5.00 inches approx.
