An attractive and finely detailed original antique print illustrating the Kestrel, Merlin etc. as well as Owls. Engraved by W. Dassauville c. 1800. With wide borders (not shown). Over 100 years old and in very good condition. Ready to frame! General Information: Copperplate Engraving - To produce a print using this process an image is first hand-cut (engraved) into the surface of a copper plate. To make a print the plate is inked, then wiped clean, so that only the incisions are left holding any ink. The image is then transferred to paper under pressure, in a press. Copperplate engraving was largely superceded by steel engraving during the early part of the 19th century. Please note that the scan can only give a very general idea of the detail in the print. Size:- printed area 4.00 x 6.50 inches approx.
