A story of tall ships in battle compiled from the literature of the sea and fashioned into
a novel.
Admiral John Benbow fought the only battle in British history in which the captains of
the fleet refused their commander's order to engage the enemy. Fighting against the
French in the West Indies in 1702, he was abandoned and forced to fight on alone,
losing his leg. On returning to Port Royal he saw the traitors condemned to death
before he himself died of his wounds and shame on their behalf.
