Antique Solid Brass Trivet
A large trivet or stand for a hot kettle or pan that you keep on the hearth by the open fire or stove. I know very little about this item - inherited and stored away for years. Age not known, but believed to be of Victorian vintage.
Weighing over 5.5 Kg (without packaging), it is of solid brass . It stands 10.5 inches high and has a maximum diameter of 9.75 inches. In 3 parts - a tripod base, a pillar and a circular top. The circular top has 8 peripheral round holes and 4 oval holes towards the centre. There is also a design engraved into the top.
The brass pillar has a steel threaded rod protruding from the bottom that secures the tripod base with a square nut. This rod seems to run right through the pillar, and protrude to screw into the circular top. The thread under the brass circular top into which the steel threaded rod fits has worn and whilst the top will sit on the pillar, it does not secure there - needs a small threaded bush fitting.
