Section 1: Haymarket - Perth - Stirling We join 37427 at Haymarket for our journey to Perth via the Forth Bridge. At Perth 37428 stands for next leg to Stirling. 37035 passes Falkirk crossing westbound.

Section 2: Glasgow Queen Street - Inverness At Glasgow Queen Street 37419 waits with the Inverness service. We pass Eastfield in the rain but the day improves as we travel north. Pitlochry, Blair Atholl, Dalwhinnie, Kingussie and Aviemore are just some of the locations we see passing class 37, 47 and HST.

Section 3: Inverness station movements Inverness class 37 movements are witnessed over a couple of days. While based at Inverness we take a trip to Dingwall and Kyle-of-Lochalsh. The sleeper fails resulting in a locomotive change before a late departure.

Section 4: Inverness - Nairn - Aberdeen An early start from Inverness is made as we join 37404 on 05:52 to Aberdeen. We pass 37114 the Inverness bound train at Nairn. On arrival at Aberdeen a pair shunts the previous night’s sleeper stock.

Section 5: West Highland line - Fort William We see 37412 at Crianlarich and at Tulloch watch 37424 on the sleeper depart northbound. Fort William sees 37427 arrive with the late sleeper. In the evening after removing a defective mk2 coach, 37427 sleeper departs. Finally at Paisley we see 37175 on a ballast.
