This book is for adults or young adults at advanced level. It contains a wide variety of texts and exercises designed to encourage students to read effectively.
The ten units in Advanced Reading Skills centre round themes of general interest. Each has a focus - either a skill,such as scanning, or a feature, such as formality. There is a planned progression throughout the book, and what is learnt in one unit is developed later.
All the reading passages are authentic. The accompanying exercises and tasks reflect ways in which the skilled reader naturally approaches a text in his first language and also the varying strategies used while reading. Many of the exercises are designed to help students cope with unfamiliar words without using a dictionary - a valuable skills for effective reading.
Advanced Reading Skills can be used in the classroom on itsown, or in conjunction with Advanced Writing Skills and Advanced Speaking Skills. It can also be used by self-study students. A key to the exercises is provided at the back of the book.
